Ralph Edward Ingalls Dimmick earned a Ph D. in Romance Languages and Literature from Harvard University in 1941. After living in Brazil from 1943 to 1946, Dimmick taught Portugese and the Brazilian literature at Harvard University. In 1951, Dimmick left teaching and joined the Organization of American States.
